The spectacular mountain views along with the mixed farming activities of the valley provide a tranquil atmosphere.

Matjiesvlei Cottages Accommodation​

Die Bokwagtershuis, “Goat keeper’s house”, was originally built during the 19th century as accommodation for Matjiesvlei’s goat keeper. His task was to tend to all the goats of the different farmers in the valley. The house has been authentically restored to maintain its atmosphere, with addition of modern amenities.

• In the main bedroom there is a double bed, the second and third bedrooms have 2 single beds each. All linen included.
• The lounge has a wood burning closed system fire place for heating in winter. There is an air conditioner in the lounge.
• The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and has a table which comfortably seats 4 people.
• The spacious stoep overlooking the veld and mountains is the ideal entertainment area with a built-in braai and more than enough seating for guests.Braai grids, fire tongs and swartpotjie available.
• The kitchen is equipped with all the required utensils, including cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer and stove. There is a washing machine in the store room.
• The bathroom has a bath, shower and basin, with the toilet separate.
• Rates:  R500 pppd (R100 extra if only one person)

Middelplaas "Middle Farm" is a cosy 2 bed roomed self catering cottage, only 3 minutes walk from the private picnic site next to the river. The history of the cottage on Middelplaas is unknown. It is the only house on Middelplaas and was probably many decades ago used as a residence for the people looking after the farm for the owners who lived elsewhere in the valley. Over the years it became very run down before it was renovated by the present owners into a cottage with the most beautiful view over the olive orchard, veld and mountains.

• In the main bedroom there is a double bed, the second bedroom has 2 single beds. All linen included.
• The lounge has an open fireplace for heating in winter, or the occasional braai. There is an air conditioner in the lounge.
• The sheltered stoep overlooking the veld and mountains is the ideal entertainment area with enough seating for guests.
• There is a circular braai on the grass adjacent to the stoep. Braai grids, fire tongs and swartpotjie available.
• The kitchen is equipped with all the required utensils, including cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer and stove.
• The bathroom has a shower, basin, and toilet. 
• Rates:  R435 pppd (R100 extra if only one person)

Die Stalle (The Stables) was originally built as the residences for two of the owners of undivided shares in the agricultural land bordering the Kleinrivier (Little River). Later owners turned the houses into stables. It has now been restored into a comfortable 3 bedroomed cottage with a beautiful view of the valley and mountains. It is next to the farm dam.

• The spacious stoep overlooking the veld and mountains is the ideal entertainment area with a built-in braai and more than enough seating for guests. Braai grids, fire tongs and swartpotjie available.
• The kitchen part of the enclosed stoep is equipped with all the required utensils, including cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is a Dover stove for use in winter as well.
• The bathroom has a bath, shower, basin and toilet. The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower. The water is heated with a gas cylinder.

DIRECTIONS

• To get there, you travel on the R62.
• Coming from Ladismith, the turnoff to Matjiesvlei is 40km from Ladismith.
• Coming from Oudtshoorn through Calitzdorp, the turnoff to Matjiesvlei is 5.6km from Calitzdorp.
• The turnoff is clearly marked - as seen in the pictures on the right.
