Quirimbas Islands
General Information
The Quirimbas Islands are situated in the Indian Ocean from the North-eastern side of Mozambique, close to Pemba. Originally small fishing settlements, the island's population thrived under the Portuguese trading routes. The relatively unknown Quirimbas Archipelago if fast becoming Africa's "must-go-to" destination. Seclusion, a relaxing way of life, fascinating marine world and crystal clear water; are all part of the attraction for this area.
The Archipelago is made up of 27 coral islands which are settled along the coast from Pemba to the Tanzanian border. Many of the islands are uninhabited and Quirimbas is only one of the few that have accommodation and amenities on it.
