General Information

Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the North West Province of South Africa, only 90km north of Zeerust and approximately 4 hours drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Madikwe is one of South Africa's leading safari destinations and is home to a variety of large mammal species, including the Big Five. With over 300 bird species ranging from migrant to resident, this is a bird lovers paradise.

Madikwe Game Reserve successfully works in conjunction with the Government, the private sectors and local communities utilising the grounds in the most effective way possible.

The reserve comprises of vast open woodlands and grasslands combined with large rocky hills. The entire reserve has been enclosed in an electrified perimeter fence to prevent the escape of elephants and predators.

Madikwe has been established to provide a personal experience for each visitor. There are day, night safari drives, and bush walks with experienced rangers who have great knowledge of the area and will enhance guests wildlife experience. See the activity directory for options available.

The Madikwe Reserve is also big on the cultural experience with the area being immersed in legend and history dating back to the Stone Age.
