Chintsa is an unspoilt piece of seaside paradise on the Eastern Cape’s Wild Coast. The town is divided by the lagoon into Chintsa East, to the north, and Chintsa West, to the south It is perhaps the most pristine Eastern Cape seaside village on this stretch of South African coastline. A beautiful stretch of long, perfect beach, one of the Wild Coast’s most spectacular lagoons, captivating coastal sand dunes and lush, indigenous forest...
The Chintsa area offers a variety of recreational activities. An abundance of bird life including sea, estuary and river birds as well as inland species may be seen. Within a ten minute drive the rolling savannah of Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve offers sights of rhino, giraffe, zebra and a variety of buck on guided tours in an open vehicle.
When sun tanning, bathing, body surfing and beach games have been exhausted a canoe ride up river at high tide provides a pleasant alternative. Walkers can reach Cefani Mouth or Cintsa West with ease. Fishing off the rocks is also popular.
Accommodation varies from caravan & camping, B&Bs, conferencing and self-catering chalets to guest houses. Chintsa East is substantially more developed than Chintsa West, and is home popular seaside resorts and accommodation establishments. Whichever side of the lagoon you find yourself on in Chintsa, you’re bound to enjoy the scenic beauty and unspoiled natural surroundings.
The majority of the accommodation establishments in Chintsa lie in amongst the coastal forest, making for a magical holiday setting with easy access to the beach and lagoon. Laze and play on the beach for the day, explore rock pools or take a relaxing paddle up the river.
Getting there: from East London, take the N2 going towards Mthatha. Turn off after approx. 30km onto the road going into Chinsta. The road splits going into Cintsa East and Chintsa West, on either side of the lagoon.
