Hoekwil
General Information on Hoekwil
Hoekwil is a beautiful village located just inland of Wilderness on the Garden Route of the Western Cape. The village used to be a small farming community lying in the crook of the Touws River which grew into the pretty little village it is today. The village is perched above the coastline with lovely views of sea, lake and mountains. Nothing more than a few little farm shops, a church, post office and primary school Hoekwil provides a quiet and peaceful holiday experience.
There is a very large tree located on the Woodville Hiking Trail, known as the 'Big Tree' – a yellowwood tree thought to be as old as 850 years. Hoekwil has its own tourist route known as the Hoekwil Hoopla Arts Route. It is a 30km circular route that starts in Wilderness, travels up the Serpentine mountain pass through Hoekwil and the farming communities at the foot of the Outeniqua mountains, and then back down through the lakes. On route are some tea gardens, galleries and accommodation venues.
Other activities to do in and around Hoekwil are:
- Picnics
