The town of Piketberg is situated in the West Coast region of the Western Cape, South Africa.
The town is in the foothills of the Piketbergmountains, a range of low mountains formed from Table Mountain Sandstone.
The area around the mountains is conducive to the farming of wheat, while the area on top of the mountains, being cooler and generally frost-free, is suited to the farming of fruit and Rooibos Tea.
The area was once inhabited by the Khoikhoi and the San and there is still well-preserved San rock art in the mountains.
It is an area of vast contrast and unexpected beauty. The Piketberg mountain range is unique as it stands as an island with Piketberg as its main town on its Eastern slopes.
Piketberg has a variety of accommodation options available from Guest Houses, Bed and Breakfasts to Self-catering units.
Visitors can take a trip up Versveld Pass to the top of the mountain where you will drive through acres of apple, pear, peach and orange trees. Breathe in the scents of wild rosemary and one will see many yellow Waboom and pink Nerifolia Proteas, on the way up.
Piketberg offers travellers many different activities, including horse riding, bird watching, hiking, mountain biking and fishing.
There are many restaurants on offer to suit every visitors budget.
Piketberg has a thriving business community and provides a wide range of goods and services to its residents as well as surrounding communities.
