Ermelo
Ermelo is a town situated in the Grass and Wetlands region of Mpumalanga in South Africa.
Geography and History
Ermelo was established on the site of a church built in 1871 by the Reverent Frans Cachet. Today, Ermelo is a beautiful town in which there are wonderful scatterings of maize, cattle, wool and sunflower farms.
Anthracite, coal and torbanite mining also takes place here, being one of South Africa’s biggest mining areas of this type.

Activities
The Nooitgedacht research station, situated 4kms from the town, of the Agricultural Department, conduct research into crop production and animal husbandry.
There is a diverse range of activities available in and around this area, including hiking and bird watching.
Other exciting Ermelo activities and attractions include the Anglo-Boer War Memorial, and the Paul Kruger Bridge over the Vaal River which, upon its erection in 1897, was, at 124m, the largest bridge in the region. The bridge is now a national monument.
