Volksrust
Volksrust is a small town situated in the Grass and Wetlands region of Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Geography and History
Volksrust means “Nation’s Rest” in Dutch, named so because it is where the Transvaal soldiers rested after the Battle of Majuba, wherein the Transvaal won its independence back from the British.
During the Second Boer War the British built a concentration camp in the town and many Boer women and children died here.
Today, the town produces beef, dairy, maize, sorghum wool and sunflower seeds.
