Witbank (eMalahleni)
Witbank is situated in the Cultural Heartlands region of Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Geography and History
Witbank means “white ridge” in Afrikaans. In 2006 Witbank was officially renamed eMalahleni which means ‘place of coal’ in Zulu.
There are a number of power stations and even a steel mill in the area. Farm land surrounding the city is being bought out by investors, coal mining companies and real estate developers to accommodate the rapid development of the city.
Accommodation
Visitors travelling from the Kruger Park to Johannesburg find Witbank to be a convenient stop on route and as a result there is a range of tourism accommodation, including a number of hotels and many guest houses.

There are also various activities to do in and around the town, including a casino complex housing ten pin bowling, restaurants and cinemas.
