Luckhoff
Geography and history
Luckhoff is small town situated in the Motheo and Xhariep region of the Free State Province in South Africa. It is well-known for its merino sheep-farming. In 1892, Luckhoff was founded on the farm Koffiekuil. It is named after a Dutch Reformed Church preacher, Reverend H J Luckhoff. Although this town is renowned for its merino sheep, the majority of sheep that can be found in the area are dorper and damara. Luckhoff is located 82 km from Philippolis and 56 km from Fauresmith.
The Dutch Reformed Church is 100 years old and was built using the stones in the area. To this day, there is a gas lamp in front of the City Hall that was used as a streetlight in the earlier days.
