Allanridge
General Information
Allanridge is a mining town situated in the Lejweleputswa region of the Free State Province in South Africa. It was founded in 1950 and named after Allan Roberts whose borehole was in close proximity to the gold-bearing reef. Allanridge is the main centre of the Lorraine Gold Mining Company that processes thousands of tons of gold-bearing ore. The tall headgear and reduction works of the Lorraine gold mine is one of town's landmarks. "Paulina" an old mine locomotive can be seen at the entrance of the mine. The deep-mining process is used to extract gold.
