Geography and history

Ficksburg is a town situated in the Thabo Mofutsanyana region of the Free State Province, South Africa. It was laid out in 1867 near the Mpharane Mountain. General Johan Fick and his wife are laid to rest at the foot of a memorial in the centre of this district. Ficksburg is a very important producer of grain, corn, potatoes, fruit, dairy products and livestock. It also serves as an important gateway to Lesotho.
