Geography and history

Frankfort is small town situated in the Northern Free State region of the Free State Province in South Africa. It was established on the banks of the Wilge River on a farm named Roodepoort in 1869 and is therefore home to a thriving fishing community. Frankfort has a total population approximately 2000 and the majority of its inhabitants speak Afrikaans.The wide streets are enhanced with sandstone buildings to accommodate a full load and oxen to be able to do an oxwagon turn.The post office, police station and magistrates office were declared National Monuments by the Council for National Memorabilia.Cosmos flowers are abundant during late summer and creates a special atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.
