Indwe
Geography and History
Indwe is a town in Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
Indwe is situated about 40 km south-east of Dordrecht and 34 km north-west of Cala. It was founded in 1896 as a centre for coal-mining activities which started in 1867, and attained municipal status in 1898.
Indwe takes its name from the Indwe River, named after the blue crane (Tetrapteryx paradisea, Xhosa iNdwe), which occurred there in great numbers.
The town lies at the foot of the picturesque Stormberg Mountains. Dairy and sheep farming is the mainstay of the area.

Activities in the area include: Water sport - The Doornrivier Dam is a popular venue for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy fishing, boating, bird watching and camping. The resort also offers igloo accommodation, conference and barbecue facilities.
