Burgersfort
General Information
Burgersfort is situated in the Sekhukhune region of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. Burgersfort is located in the valley of the Spekboom River near the border of the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces. The town was named after a fort built there during the 1876-77 Second War. This battlefield is now a major attraction for tourists.
The Sekhukhune region is rich in platinum metals, while Burgersfort is mostly known for its wild flowers and the Aloe plant life which is abundant in the town. There are many hills and surrounding mountains which offer tourists great opportunities for hiking and bird watching, which are only a few of the activities available in and around this area.
Tourism does well in Burgersfort due to its great historical past and its geographical position which makes the town an ideal stop over for the traveller en-route to major cities.
There are many accommodation options available in Burgersfort, ranging from bed and breakfasts, cottages, guest houses to a hotel. With a great selection of activities, accommodation and restaurants, Burgersfort is definitely a place to visit.
