Geography and history
Mafikeng, including Mmabatho and Rooigrond, is a city situated in the Central Region of the North West Province in South Africa. Mafikeng, the capital city of this province, was founded in the 1800s by mercenaries and soldiers who set up their own town. British Commander Sir Charles Warren laid out this town near a collection of their farms. This area, now known for its modern architecture, was once the grounds for the world-famous siege during the Anglo-Boer War. It is situated in the newly named MAHIKENG - NORTH WEST PROVINCE.
