Bloemhof
Geography and history
Bloemhof is a town located in the Bophirima region of the North West Province in South Africa. It was founded in 1864 on a farmed named Klipfontein which was situated on the banks of the Vaal River. The discovery of diamonds in the area led to the formation of this town. John Barclay, an HMS Birkenhead survivor, gave this town its name after seeing the profusion of flowers in the area. Bloemhof is Afrikaans for “flower court”. It is also situated in the area now known as DR RUTH S. MOMPATI DISTRICT.http://www.tourismnorthwest.co.za/bophirima/index.html
