Geography and history

Schweizer-Reneke is a farming town situated in the Bophirima region of the North West Province, South Africa. The town was founded in 1888 and is situated on the banks of the Harts River. Its unusual name is derived from Capt CA Schweizer and Field Cornet CM Reneke who were both killed in a battle against the Koronnas in 1885.

Schweizer-Reneke is the perfect base for tourists to explore the vast and lush Bushveld countryside. The residents of this town keep themselves busy with maize and sunflower farming. The majority of this town’s residents speak Afrikaans.
