Geography and history

Vryburg is a town situated in the Bophirima region of the North West Province in South Africa. It was established in 1882 when the Republic of Stellaland was also founded. Vryburg was then proclaimed the capital of this region. This town is situated on the N14 national road and halfway between Kimberley and Mafikeng. This town is considered the agricultural and industrial centre of the region and is proud to host South Africa’s third largest agricultural show.

Vryburg has a total population of 15 000 residents of whom the majority speak Afrikaans. This town is the country’s largest producer of beef and important crops grown in the area are maize and peanuts. The rugged surroundings in the area make for great outdoor activities.

This event boasts the largest cattle sale in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a unique experience where around 250 000 cattle is sold or traded per year.
