Broederstroom
Geography and history
Broederstroom is a small town located in the Bojanala region of the North West Province in South Africa. It was established on a farm owner by Bart and Piet Pretorius who were brothers of the Transvaal President, Marthinus Pretorius. Broederstroom is a cosy town located in the Daspoortrand area and situated at the foothills of the Magaliesberg range.Broederstroom was founded in 1903 with the opening of a trading post in the area by the Jallapor family.
Broederstroom’s majority of visitors use this town as a base for exploring the Hartbeespoort Dam area. This area has many fun-filled outdoor activities. Broederstroom is also located near Pelindaba which houses two nuclear reactors in order to conduct research.
South Africa has the oldest meteor scar in the world. In the North West Province - just across the Vaal River, called the Vredefort Dome. The meteor plummeted to Earth nearly two billion years ago (earth is said to be 4,5 billion years old), predating the heady days of oxygen and multi-celled life.http://www.tourismnorthwest.co.za
